About the business:

My client is looking for an experienced and motivated Conversion Specialist to play a key role within their Lamination & Slitting department. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong technical expertise in lamination, coating, slitting and converting processes who is passionate about driving continuous improvement, developing others and supporting operational excellence.

Working closely with the Operations Manager and cross-functional teams, you will be the technical expert for conversion processes, helping to introduce new technologies, optimise production, improve quality and reduce waste across the business.

Purpose of a Conversion Specialist:

As the Conversion Specialist, you will provide technical leadership and operational support across lamination, coating, slitting and lasering processes. You will work collaboratively with Production, Quality, Maintenance, R&D and Health & Safety teams to ensure processes are efficient, reliable and continuously improving.

You will also play a vital role in developing operator capability through the creation of training programmes, standard operating procedures and ongoing coaching.

Key Responsibilities of a Conversion Specialist:

  • Champion Health & Safety standards and ensure compliance at all times.
  • Commission new equipment and establish optimum process parameters for new technologies.
  • Lead operational development of lasering, coating and lamination processes.
  • Provide expert knowledge of solvent-based lamination processes (experience of solventless lamination is advantageous).
  • Support new product development by running trials, identifying process settings and recommending improvements.
  • Create and maintain training documentation for lamination and slitting operations.
  • Train, mentor and support operators to develop technical capability.
  • Set up and operate converting machinery in line with production schedules.
  • Monitor product quality throughout the conversion process and ensure customer specifications are consistently met.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and support troubleshooting activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency and waste reduction.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have experience within a converting or flexible packaging manufacturing environment and possess strong technical knowledge of lamination and slitting processes.

You will be confident in:

  • Performing daily machine inspections, pre-start checks, machine set-up and full clean-down procedures.
  • Setting machines to precise operating specifications, including tensions, pressures, speeds and other process parameters.
  • Monitoring adhesive weights, mixing temperatures, roller temperatures and adhesive ratios.
  • Creating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitoring manufacturing processes, identifying defects or deviations and implementing corrective actions to minimise waste.
  • Working closely with Production and Supervisory teams to maintain quality and production performance.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and implementing best practice.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: £42,000 per annum
  • Hours: 36 hours per week, worked over an 8-week shift rotation
  • The role includes 12-hour day and night shifts
  • Flexibility will be required to cover additional day shifts in line with business requirements
  • Overtime is available and paid at double time
